The Gardens Shop
Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne

Sunday,  February 14th
11:00am-3:00pm

Janet finds most of her favorite subjects such as parrots, kookaburras, robins, wrens and magpies, close to her Melbourne home. However, each year she travels hundreds of kilometers to observe Australian birds and animals in their natural habitat

Allowing the subject to suggest her approach and medium, Janet contrasts opaque paint against transparent watercolor, solid shapes against fine lines and accurate rendering against loose and spontaneous brushwork. Compositions are carefully planned with a particular interest in the use of space and asymmetry. She depicts her subjects in a realistic manner, but places them on a background where the colours and shapes work to suggest their environment.

foxfly101

The Fox Fly Visor is available at the Gardens Shop Cranbourne for $32.95

The Australian-designed Foxfly visor offers an effective – as well as stylish – solution to the seasonal bush fly problem.

Foxfly looks and feels like a good quality regular visor, because that’s exactly what it is. But, unlike ordinary visors, Foxfly can also be turned instantly into an effective defence against bush flies whenever the need arises.

The key to the Foxfly visor is its unique headband, together with its specially tailored cotton flynet. The net is sewn into the lining of the headband from which it is easily released through an invisible zip along the full length of the headband.

Foxfly is easy to use and extremely comfortable, not hot and airless like fine mesh beekeeper-style nets. It is also attractive – with the net out, as well  as in. And, of course, people can wear their Foxfly visor anywhere, anytime … flies or no flies.

The visor is available only at the Gardens Shop Cranbourne for $32.95. It comes in 3 colours – Ghost Gum (grey), Sand Dune (tan) and Tidal Flow (green).

Mick belongs to the Yeerun-Illam-Baluk clan of the Taungurung people. He lives with his family in the rolling foothills of Gippsland’s Strzelecki ranges, a short drive from Morwell National Park, and is an active member of the Taungurung, local and Victorian Indigenous communities.

From a very young age, Mick demonstrated a strong talent as a sketch artist. Through a journey of discovery about his own heritage and many years of honing his artistic talents, Mick has become a skilled artisan creating high quality works in his purpose built studio-workshop on the family property.
